The Drive from Charleroi to Leuven

The route covers 85 km (53 miles) and usually takes about 1 h 6 m. The road leads north from Charleroi towards the Brussels region and then east to Leuven. Because the route passes near the capital, traffic can build up during the morning and late-afternoon rush hours. Roadworks and weekday congestion around the Brussels ring can also add time. If you have a fixed appointment, a train to catch or a university event to attend, it is sensible to plan a buffer on top of the standard journey time. The historic centre is compact and easy to explore on foot, so most visitors can reach their hotel or lodging quickly after arrival.
