Brussels Zaventem Airport (BRU) to Zaandam

The drive from Brussels Airport to Zaandam

The road distance is 218 km (136 miles), and the typical driving time is 2 h 25 m. The route heads north from Zaventem into the Netherlands and ends just northwest of Amsterdam. Zaandam is a less frequently booked destination, but it is available on request like any other. Allow extra time on weekday mornings and late afternoons, when traffic around Antwerp, Rotterdam and Amsterdam can slow the journey. Bad weather can also add to the drive.

Choosing the right vehicle

For solo travellers, couples and small families, a private taxi is the simplest option. There are versions for 1-3 or 1-4 passengers, so choose the larger one if you carry bulky luggage. Groups of up to 8 can travel in a private minibus with 8 seats. For larger parties such as school trips, wedding guests or company teams, minibuses are available with 16, 24, 32, 40 or 48 seats. With a journey of well over two hours, travelling together in one vehicle is often more comfortable than splitting up.

Zaandam and where to stay

Zaandam lies on the River Zaan in North Holland. It is known for its industrial heritage and for the nearby Zaanse Schans, with its traditional windmills and wooden houses. It is also a convenient base for reaching Amsterdam.

In Zaandam itself, the best-known hotel is Inntel Hotels Amsterdam Zaandam, set in a striking building made of stacked, traditional Zaan-style houses. Amsterdam is the nearest large city, and it has long-established hotels such as:

• Pulitzer Amsterdam
• Hotel Krasnapolsky
