About Tongerlo

Tongerlo is a village in the municipality of Westerlo, in the Kempen region of the province of Antwerp. It is best known for Tongerlo Abbey, a Premonstratensian abbey whose name is also linked to the well-known Belgian abbey beers. The abbey is also known for its copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper, made by pupils of Leonardo. The surrounding countryside is flat and green, with woodland and cycling routes, which makes it a calm base compared with the larger cities nearby.
