About Schengen

Schengen is a small wine-growing village on the Moselle river in the south-east corner of Luxembourg, right where the borders of Luxembourg, Germany and France meet. It is best known worldwide for giving its name to the Schengen Agreement, signed here in 1985 on a boat on the Moselle, which led to passport-free travel across much of Europe. Today visitors come for the riverside setting, the vineyards of the Moselle valley and the European Museum dedicated to the history of the agreement. It is a quiet place, so expect a peaceful arrival rather than a busy town centre.
