About Rupelmonde

Rupelmonde is a small village in the municipality of Kruibeke in East Flanders, located where the river Rupel flows into the Scheldt. It is best known as the birthplace of the cartographer Gerardus Mercator, born here in 1512, and the village honours him with a statue. The setting is quiet and riverside, with flat Flemish countryside all around, which makes it a pleasant base for walks and cycling along the Scheldt.
