Brussels Zaventem Airport (BRU) to Brielen

The Drive from Brussels Airport to Brielen

Brielen lies 135 km (84 miles) from Brussels Zaventem Airport, and the drive normally takes about 1 h 26 m. The route heads west across Flanders, so the stretch around Brussels is the part most likely to slow you down. Morning and late-afternoon traffic on the ring road can add time, so allow a little extra if you have a fixed appointment or an onward connection. This route is booked less often than the big city transfers, but it is available on request in the same way as any other.

Meeting Point

Your driver waits at Java Coffee House with a personalised name sign. The spot is easy to find once you have collected your luggage, so you can go straight there after baggage reclaim.

Choosing the Right Vehicle

Solo travellers, couples and small families are usually best served by a private taxi, available for 1-3 or 1-4 passengers. The four-passenger option gives a little more room for suitcases. Larger groups can choose a private minibus with 8, 16, 24, 32, 40 or 48 seats, which keeps everyone in one vehicle for the whole 1 h 26 m journey. That suits wedding parties, school trips, sports teams and groups visiting the nearby battlefield sites together.

Brielen and Where to Stay Nearby

Brielen is a small village in West Flanders that belongs to the municipality of Ieper (Ypres). It sits close to the Ieper-IJzer canal and is surrounded by flat farmland. The area is closely tied to First World War history, and many visitors come to explore the surrounding memorial sites and cemeteries.

Brielen itself offers little in the way of large hotels, so most travellers stay in nearby Ieper, only a few minutes away. Well-known options there include:

• Hotel Ariane, a long-running hotel close to the town centre
• Albion Hotel, a small hotel near the Grote Markt
• Main Street Hotel, a central hotel on Meensestraat
