The Kasteel van Breda, home to the Royal Military Academy, stands close to the centre as well. The compact centre, with its squares, cafés and canal-side streets, is pleasant to explore on foot. The city also has a railway station with onward connections within the Netherlands, which makes it a practical base for visiting nearby towns.
