Brussels Zaventem Airport (BRU) to Aalter

The Drive from Brussels Airport to Aalter

Aalter lies 84 km (52 miles) from Brussels Zaventem Airport, and the trip usually takes around 56 minutes. The route heads west across Flanders on the motorway network, so the journey is straightforward. This is an occasionally booked route, which makes a pre-arranged ride a practical choice instead of working out connections on arrival. Morning and late-afternoon rush hours around Brussels and Ghent can slow traffic, so allow some extra time if you have a tight onward appointment or a fixed check-in.

Choosing the Right Vehicle

For small groups, a private taxi works well: one version seats 1-3 passengers and another seats 1-4. Larger parties can choose a private minibus with 8 seats. For bigger groups there are minibuses with 16, 24, 32, 40 or 48 seats, which suits wedding parties, company teams, school groups and tours. When you book, count your luggage as well as your passengers, and pick the next size up if you are carrying a lot of bags.

Aalter as a Destination

Aalter is a municipality in East Flanders, in the countryside between Ghent and Bruges. It is a quiet, largely residential area with a rural feel, and its location makes it a convenient base for visiting both historic cities. A door-to-door transfer is especially useful here, since the smaller villages are not always easy to reach directly from the airport.

Places to Stay Near Aalter

Aalter itself is small, so many visitors look at the nearby city of Ghent for a wider choice of hotels. Well-established options in Ghent include:

• NH Gent Belfort, in the historic centre
• Marriott Ghent Hotel, close to the Graslei and Korenlei waterfront
• Hotel Gravensteen, a hotel in a former mansion near the castle
